NEW DELHI, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in India on Monday for a four-day visit, officials said.

Guterres is accompanied by a six-member delegation.

During his stay, the UN chief will be meeting top India leadership, including President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to discuss key global issues, including peace, climate change and sustainable development.

"Secretary-General Guterres would be participating in the Mahatma Gandhi international sanitation convention scheduled to be held at Rashtrapati Bhawan cultural center tomorrow," a Foreign Ministry official said.

"He will also attend the joint inaugural ceremony of the first assembly of International Solar Alliance (ISA), 2nd RE-INVEST conference and energy ministers' meeting of Indian Ocean Rim Association of States (IORA) member countries," said the official.

India will celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the celebrated independence hero, on Tuesday. The event will also mark the fourth anniversary of the clean India movement, locally called Swachh Bharat Mission.

"As UNGA high-level week ends, look forward to visiting India to discuss issues central to the United Nations and multilateralism: peace, sustainable development, Climate Action and more," Guterres wrote on Twitter ahead of his visit to India.
