BISHKEK, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The 17th autumn meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly opened on Wednesday in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek.

Some 300 parliamentarians from 48 countries, including Britain, Germany, Russia, the United States and France, are taking part in the session that will end on Saturday.

Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov in his welcoming remarks briefed the guests on the political and social situation and the reforms being conducted in the republic.

Jeenbekov said that the deterioration of the international situation in connection with the growth in the terrorist threat highlights the need to strengthen interaction and consolidate efforts within the OSCE.

"Kyrgyzstan hopes that an open and honest dialogue within the OSCE will help restore confidence among the countries for close cooperation," he said.

Hosted by the Jogorku Kenesh (parliament) of Kyrgyzstan, the 2018 autumn meeting will include a parliamentary conference on "Promoting Security Dialogue in Central Asia and Beyond."

It will also include a Mediterranean forum on "Geopolitics of Central Asia and the Mediterranean: Addressing Migration, Trade and Environmental Challenges."
