BEIRUT, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- British Ambassador to Lebanon Chris Rampling said Thursday that the United Kingdom is committed to its support of the Lebanese army to preserve security and stability in the country, local media reported.

"We strongly believe in the capacity of the Lebanese army as the only protector of Lebanon and we support its efforts in providing security to all its citizens from the borders to the Mediterranean Sea," he was quoted by Lebanese National News Agency as saying.

The ambassador's remarks came during his visit to the school of Special Forces of the Lebanese army to congratulate the last soldier in the batch of the 10,000 members that were trained by the school.

"I am proud to give a training certificate to the last soldier trained by this school which reflects our commitment to the training of one third of the combat force in the Lebanese army," he said.

Rampling noted that UK's investment in the support of the Lebanese army has reached 63 million British pounds (82 U.S. million dollars) since 2010.
