BUDAPEST, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- French bulldogs are officially Hungary's most popular dog breed, said a latest report published on Monday by the National Association of Dog Breeders (MEOE).

Citing the registered official numbers within purebred dogs, MEOE said the second most popular breed was the Hungarian Vizsla, the third the German shepherd dog.

The following breeds in order of decreasing popularity are the bulldog, the border collie, the cane corso, the staffordshire terrier, the dachshund, the puli (the other Hungarian breed) and finally the bichon havanais, according to the report.

Last year the French bulldog was already at first place, but the second most preferred dog was the German shepherd while the third most favorite the Yorkshire terrier.

Figures showed that around 33 percent of households in Hungary owned a dog.
