KHARTOUM, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's government on Monday reiterated readiness to work with the United Nations to deliver humanitarian assistance to the rebel-controlled areas.

Last week, the Sudanese government has signed a deal with the UN on sending humanitarian aid and holding immunization campaigns in the areas controlled by the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector in Blue Nile and South Kordofan.

"We reiterate our full readiness to work with the UN to implement the agreement," said Mohamed Abu Zaid Mustafa, Sudan's health minister, in a statement.

He urged the SPLM/northern sector to prioritize the interest of the citizens and agree on the UN plan, stressing the ministry's flexibility in implementing the campaigns.

Mustafa further commended UN's great efforts in delivering humanitarian assistance through cooperation with the government represented in the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC).

On Tuesday, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Gwi-Yeop Son, welcomed in a statement Khartoum's decision to approve the UN initiative.

"I welcome and commend this decision by the government of Sudan to provide access of aid to the most vulnerable people in need," Son said in the statement.

She stressed that the UN stands ready to work closely with the government of Sudan and with the leaderships of the SPLM/northern sector in Blue Nile and South Kordofan for coordinating a more permanent and sustainable access.

"This will provide much needed humanitarian assistance to people who have been affected by the conflict and have not been accessible from within Sudan since 2011," she noted.
