BUDAPEST, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- A stable Turkish government and a stable Turkey are necessary to prevent a threat to Hungary from migration, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said at a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan here on Monday.

"Our relations are based on mutual respect, but in our case, there is more: Turkey is the key to our safety, as Turkey shelters the millions of refugees, stopping them from coming to Europe," Orban explained in the parliament building before journalists.

Orban also said that the meeting on Monday was rather short albeit friendly, and specific business decisions would be discussed Tuesday in the framework of a bilateral trade forum.

The annual 5 billion U.S. dollars trade volume set as a goal in 2013 had still not been achieved, but recent growth suggested that the target was not unrealistic, Orban pointed.

Turkish investments in Hungary were also among the topics discussed at the talks as well as opportunities for Hungarian companies to do business in Turkey, especially in farming and water management, Orban added.

Answering a question about the matter of Turkey's accession bid to the European Union, Orban said Hungary has supported Turkey till now and will continue to support the country.

Erdogan thanked Orban for the warm welcome he felt and received in Hungary. Enditem
