KIGALI, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) on Tuesday interrogated a female politician, who was freed in September on a presidential pardon, over her remarks that characterized her conviction as political.
Victoire Ingabire appeared at Rwanda Investigation Bureau in Rwandan capital Kigali in response to summons to discuss factually incorrect statements made by her recently, or attributed to her, which may constitute violations of the penal code, the bureau said in a statement.
Ingabire was specifically questioned on characterizations of her conviction as "political" and references to other prisoners as "political prisoners," the statement said.
Ingabire said she was acting based on poor advice and ignorance of the law, said the statement. She also committed to abiding by the law going forward and clarifing her position on the said matters, it said.
Ingabire heads an unregistered political party, FDU-Inkingi, in Rwanda. She was sentenced to 15 years in 2013 by Rwanda's Supreme Court after being found guilty of conspiring to harm the country through terror and minimizing the 1994 genocide against Tutsi.
She did not plead for mercy for crimes she didn't commit, Ingabire was quoted as saying by media after her release on Sept. 15.
