China exposes cases of Party frugality violations

BEIJING, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The disciplinary arm of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday detailed 12 cases of violations of the Party's eight-point decision on improving official conduct.

Officials were found to have been involved in cases of using public funds for banquets and traveling and accepting bribes, among other misdeeds, and their punishments ranged from an intra-Party warning to dismissal, according to a statement released by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

In one case, former Party chief of the Purple Light Movieland surnamed Zheng, and Wen Jingming, manager of the company, used 527,700 yuan (76,000 U.S. dollars) of public funds to buy gift cards and sent cards worth 346,700 yuan to the company's leadership from March 2014 to September 2017.

In addition, the company held three banquets for the leadership and some staff using public funds from December 2014 to January 2016. Zheng and Wen received serious intra-Party warnings in August.

Another case took place in Linhe Village in Zuoquan County, Shanxi Province. Zhao Xuedong, chief of the village Party committee, and Wang Shuying, chief of the villagers' committee, used more than 10,000 yuan of public funds for traveling together with two members of the village Party committee in June 2017.

Zhao and Wang were given serious intra-Party warnings, and the two members received intra-Party warnings. They were ordered to restitute the funds.
