JSE slumps on Monday

JOHANNESBURG, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) fell on Monday with the all share index down 1.88 percent to close at 52,466.98 points and the top 40 falling 2.07 percent.

Industrials was off 2.98 percent, and banks dropped 2.66 percent. Heavyweight stock Naspers slumped 5.43 percent to R2750.18.

The rating agency Moody's put a hold on Friday to release South Africa's credit ratings, which many market experts hope will be favourable.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on the medium-term budget policy to be presented by the new finance minister, Tito Mboweni.

Among the banks, FirstRand declined 3.15 percent to R60.82, Standard Banks lost 1.84 percent to R160.87.

Shoperite dropped 2.27 percent to R185.68.

Bucking the trend, sibanye-Stillwater advanced 13.52 percent to settle at R12.51; AngloGold Ashanti gained 7.2 percent to R146.55. Enditem
