ALGIERS, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Algeria and Nigeria on Monday signed a plan to boost bilateral economic cooperation, on the occasion of visiting Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama to Algiers.
The cooperation included sectors of energy, transport and communication, according to the document signed between Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel and Onyeama at the fourth Higher Algerian-Nigerian Cooperation Committee which wrapped up on Monday in Algiers.
Messahel noted the plan "clarifies" various stages of the implementation of commitments made by both sides.
He hailed the mega projects that the two countries jointly launched, the Trans-Saharan Highway linking Algiers and Lagos, the trans-Saharan fiber optic cable project linking the two capitals, and the gas pipeline linking the two countries, which will allow the transfer of Nigerian gas to Europe via Niger and Algeria.
The Algerian top diplomat said that the two countries will also seal 10 agreements related to the fields of trade, industry, energy and investment.
Onyeama said that Nigeria aspires to activate and strengthen its cooperation with Algeria, noting that "we came to Algeria to boost bilateral cooperation and give a new impetus to the projects initiated by the two parties."
