QUITO, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- More than a dozen people were arrested Wednesday in four Ecuadorian provinces during an operation against alleged illegal trafficking of arms and explosives and organized crime, the interior minister said.
At a joint press conference with the national police and the attorney general, interior minister Maria Paula Romo said Operation Chameleon began at dawn Wednesday.
"There were seven raids this morning in four different provinces," Romo said.
The operation continues and more arrests are forthcoming, she said, adding she could not give further details.
According to local news reports, at least 14 people, including active military personnel, were arrested.
