ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) on Wednesday signed five road projects worth 305 million U.S. dollars in total with three Chinese firms.

The roads, 342.2 km in total length, are expected to be constructed in the central, northern and eastern parts of the country.

China Railway 21 Bureau Group Company Limited, the China State Construction Engineering Construction Limited (CSCECL) and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) will build the five road projects.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Ethiopia's capital, ERA Director General Habtamu Tegegne said the five road projects will answer the long-held demands of communities whose economic and social activity has been severely restricted because of poor roads.

"These road projects will answer the long-standing demands of communities. They will also facilitate easier transportation, while generally having economic benefits for the whole of Ethiopia," said Tegegne.

Deputy General Manager of CCCC east Africa branch Wei Qiangyu said his company will build two of the five road projects with sstrict quality control and complete on time.

"The focus for executing the project will be strict quality and timely delivery," he said. "Full attention will be paid to proper management of environmental control and fullfilling our social responsibilities to incorporate more involvement of local professionals as well as focusing on knowledge transfer."

Wei told Xinhua that his company, which recently celebrated 20 years of presence in Ethiopia, has been able to survive and expand because it strives to undertake projects professionally and with great care.
