KHARTOUM, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday reiterated the importance of joint work and rapprochement between Egypt and Sudan.
Earlier in the day, Sisi arrived in the Sudanese capital Khartoum for an official one-day visit, where he was received at Khartoum airport by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and a number of ministers and officials.
"The second meeting of the Higher Presidential Committee between Sudan and Egypt comes as a culmination of a joint effort by the technical and ministerial committees during their meetings in Khartoum and Cairo," Sisi said in his address to the meeting.
"The mutual understanding and rapprochement reflects the joint history of the two peoples of the Nile Valley," he added.
The electricity and railway linkage projects would achieve a qualitative and quantitative shift in the cooperation between Khartoum and Cairo, the Egyptian president noted.
Sisi also called for enhanced economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, particularly amid the economic challenges facing the region.
"The agreements and memorandums of understanding, which we will sign today, constitute a solid foundation for the cooperation process in different fields," he said.
