Spanish unemployment rate drops below 15 pct for first time in 10 years

MADRID, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- The unemployment rate in Spain was below 15 percent for the first time in 10 years in the third quarter according to data published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The number of unemployed people fell by 164,100 between July and September to a total of 3.3 million, the INE said, while there are 405,800 fewer unemployed people when compared with the third quarter of 2017.

Regarding sectors, the services sector continues to create the largest number of jobs: over the last year, 346,800 new jobs were created in the sector, 85,600 in the construction sector and 55,000 in the industrial sector.

On the contrary, the agriculture sector lost 8,600 workers.

The number of unemployed people reached about over 6 million in Spain in 2013 due to the crisis.

The Secretary of State for Economy Ana de la Cueva stressed that the Spanish economy remains strong and is capable of creating jobs.

De la Cueva said that the data known on Thursday confirmed a positive evolution of the labor market.
