LUSAKA, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Zambian Vice-President Inonge Wina on Friday urged lawmakers to pass a law that criminalizes hate speech to strengthen the unity of the country.

It is high time parliament considered enacting a law that will discourage perpetration of hate speech, Wina said.

Speaking in parliament during a question and answer session, she said current legislation pertaining to hate speech is weak and needs to be amended and strengthened.

Wina urged politicians to desist from making hate speech that has the potential to plunge the country into chaos.
