TRIPOLI, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Libya's UN-backed Prime Minister Fayez Serraj and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Friday discussed arrangements of the upcoming Palermo conference on Libya, according to the Libyan Prime Minister's information office.
The two officials discussed the conference on Libya to be held in Italian city of Palermo in November in Rome. The conference aims to resolve the current political stalemate in Libya.
"Prime Minister Serraj called for unification of regional and international positions towards Libya and for the participants in the Palermo conference to commit to its outcomes in order to build a democratic civil state based on a constitutional rule and elections," the statement issued by the office said.
The talks also included economic cooperation between the two countries and supporting Libya's services and infrastructure sectors, as well as cooperation against illegal immigration and training for the Libyan coast guards and border security personnel, the statement added.
Earlier in October, Conte extended an invitation to Serraj to participate in the Palermo conference on Libya, which will be held on November 12-13.
Libya suffers political division and insecurity ever since the fall of former leader Gaddafi's regime in 2011. The North African nation struggles to make a democratic transition amid chaos and escalating violence.
