MINSK, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Rumas said on Tuesday that his country expects to sign a partnership agreement with the European Union (EU).

Belarus attaches great importance to the participation in the Eastern Partnership program and expects to conclude a partnership agreement with the EU, Rumas said at a meeting with Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations.

Belarus is convinced that this program should contribute to the sustainable economic development of the Eastern European region and help to resolve emerging differences, Rumas said.

For Belarus, the EU is one of the key guarantors of stability and sustainable development in Europe, the official said.

Rumas said that trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and the EU has been steadily developing.

Belarusian exports to the EU rose by 43 percent in the first eight months of 2018, he said, adding that it was a very good result.
