ISLAMABAD, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held talks with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad, officials said Wednesday.
Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Faisal said that detailed discussions were held on all issues of mutual interest including ways to enhance cooperation took place.
"Talks between Iran and Pakistan took place on all issues of mutual interest," Faisal said on Twitter.
The Iranian top diplomat arrived in the Pakistani capital early Wednesday.
Iranian official media reported earlier that heading a politico-military delegation, Zarif will be "kept abreast of the measures Pakistan government has adopted for security and release of Iranian border guards," who were kidnapped earlier this month.
A group of 14 Iranian border guards were kidnapped by an armed group in Mirjaveh border point in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province on Oct. 16, according to Iranian officials.
Iranian officials had been in contact with Pakistani counterparts since the kidnapping of the border guards, however, there is no progress about their whereabouts.
A Sunni extremist group Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice) had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping and also released two photographs showing seven members of the elite Revolutionary Guards force and five police commandos, according to Iranian media reports.
Pakistani officials said senior military officials of the two countries were making efforts to recover the missing guards, whom Iran believed might have been shifted to Pakistani side of the border.
Chief of Staff of the Iranian armed forces Mohammad Hossein Bagheri spoke to his Pakistani counterpart Qamar Javed Bajwa by phone after the incident and sought his cooperation to secure the release of the guards.
