Chinese shares close higher Thursday

BEIJING, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares on Thursday resumed a rising streak with brewery and electronics shares leading the gains.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed 0.13 percent higher at 2606.24, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.14 percent higher at 7,567.79.

Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 383.28 billion yuan (about 55 billion U.S. dollars), up from 314.9 billion yuan the previous trading day.

The brewery and electronics sectors spearheaded the rally, rising 2.46 percent and 2 percent, respectively.

Liquor makers maintained strong momentum, with the Jiangsu-based Yanghe Distillery rising 6.62 percent to end at 94.24 yuan. The household spirit Wuliangye jumped 3.12 percent to 49.65 yuan.

The electronics and information sector rose to prominence, with six tech firms hiking by the daily limit of 10 percent. The leading artificial intelligence developer Iflytek Co. Ltd., rose 7.84 percent to close at 24.34 yuan.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, gained 0.84 percent to close at 1,286.33.
