TEHRAN, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) launched an air defense military exercise on Monday, Tasnim news agency reported.
The war game, coded Velayat, is held in an area of around half a million square km in northern, central and western Iran.
The maneuver involves tactics to employ command and control systems to detect, track and intercept hostile targets.
The units from the army and the IRGC are also expected to conduct air defense operations in electronic warfare and use passive aerial detection systems, as well as air defense gear including manned and unmanned aircraft.
Iran holds regular annual war games in a bid to boost capabilities to defend the country's airspace.
