KIEV, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's army was ranked among the top 10 most powerful armies in Europe, Ukrainian government-run Ukrinform news agency said on Monday.
The ranking, which was developed by the Business Insider website, evaluated factors such as geography, logistical capabilities, industrial capacity, diversity of weapons and assets, manpower and others.
According to the ranking, the total number of active-duty and reserve military personnel in Ukraine exceeds 1.18 million.
The army, with an annual budget of 4.88 billion U.S. dollars, has in its arsenal more than 2,200 combat tanks, 25 naval assets, and 240 aircraft, including 39 fighter aircraft.
According to the ranking, Russia has the most powerful army in Europe, followed by France, Britain and Turkey.
Ukraine has been strengthening its defensive capacities since April 2014, when the conflict started in the country's eastern regions.
In 2013, Ukraine's defense budget stood at 1.11 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP). In 2016, it reached 5 percent of GDP and has been maintained at that level for three years.
