TRIPOLI, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- The British Embassy in Libya on Monday welcomed the Libyan government's establishment of the Women's Empowerment and Support Unit.
"We welcome the announcement of the Presidential Council's Women's Empowerment Unit, a crucial step in ensuring the equal representation of women in senior government decision making," the embassy said in a statement.
"We look forward to cooperating with the newly appointed unit heads, to ensure that local Libyan women have their voices heard and are represented justly," the statement said.
The UN Mission in Libya on Wednesday also commended the establishment of the unit, calling on the government and the international community to "invest in and support the functions of this unit."
The Women's Empowerment and Support Unit has been appointed based on Article 11 of the UN-sponsored Libyan political agreement, which was signed by the Libyan rivals later in 2015 in order to end the political division in the country.
