MUSCAT, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Groundwork is now underway at Mina Al Sultan Qaboos Waterfront in Muscat, capital city of Oman, announced Dubai-listed DAMAC International on Tuesday.
The preliminary building work for the mixed-use waterfront development in Muscat comes more than one year after the developer was selected by Oman's government to transform the historical port into a two-billion-U.S.-dollar integrated waterfront destination.
The project, which includes hotels, residences, food and beverage, retail and entertainment offerings, is in line with Oman's National Strategy for Tourism 2040.
"The redevelopment of Mina Al Sultan Qaboos into an integrated lifestyle destination stems from His Majesty's vision of transforming the historical center of commerce in Muscat into a timeless and thriving economic hub," said Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, deputy chairman of the Supreme Council for Planning.
"As we pave the way forward, and redefine urban development in the Middle East, DAMAC once again confirms its commitment to developing a world-class destination in Muscat," said Hussain Sajwani, chairman of DAMAC.
