Brunei trade balance records 170.4 pct rise in August

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- For the month of August 2018, Brunei recorded 283.1 million Brunei dollars (206.7 million U.S. dollars) trade balance from 104.7 million Brunei dollars in August 2017, a 170.4 percent year-on-year rise.

According to the latest statistics released by the Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy on Wednesday, the exports amounted to 762.2 million Brunei dollars in August 2018, a 42.1 percent year-on-year increase. Mineral fuels recorded the highest contribution with 703.1 million Brunei dollars, or 92.2 percent of total exports.

"The increase of exports was mainly due to increases in the exports of both crude oil and liquefied natural gas by 54.2 percent and 41.2 percent respectively," a JPKE official told Xinhua by telephone.

The biggest export market was Japan with 44.6 percent of total exports, followed by Thailand (12.6 percent), the United States (9.2 percent), and India (7.8 percent).

In August 2018, total imports were valued at 479.1 million Brunei dollars, a 11 percent year-on-year increase.
