MOSCOW, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- A Mi-8 helicopter crashed in Russia's Tver region northwest of Moscow, killing at least one person, the Russian Investigative Committee said Thursday.

The chopper made an emergency landing during a mission to monitor a local gas pipeline, the Moscow Inter-regional Transport Department of the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

It has initiated a criminal case for violating air transport safety regulations resulting in a death due to negligence.

The Tver regional division of the Emergencies Ministry said in a separate statement that a rescue team sent to the crash scene discovered the helicopter and found that "some people were hurt," providing no details.

TASS news agency, quoting unnamed medical sources, said three other people aboard the helicopter suffered injuries.
