BAGHDAD, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi President Barham Salih will start a tour in the Gulf region that would begin in Kuwait on Sunday to boost ties with the Arab countries.

A statement by his office on Saturday said that Salih is travelling to Kuwait for a state visit "at the invitation of Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, as he scheduled to discuss various issues, including bilateral ties and means to develop them."

The president's tour in the Gulf will also include the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in addition to a number of neighboring countries, said the statement without naming the other countries.

The aim of the tour is to confirm Iraq's keenness to "build the best relations with its Arab and Gulf brotherly countries in establishing good-neighborliness, economic integration and common cultural advancement to serve the peoples of the region and promote the concepts of international cooperation," the statement added.

Salih's tour is his first since he took office on October 2, when the Iraqi parliament elected him as the president of Iraq.
