WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) released the 2018 version of its adult financial education curriculum on Wednesday.

The curriculum, branded "Money Smart for Adults," is a comprehensive financial education curriculum designed to help low and moderate income individuals improve their financial skills and create positive banking relationships, according to the FDIC.

"The FDIC's Money Smart for Adults helps people gain the knowledge, confidence, and skills to use banks more effectively and manage their finances," said FDIC Chairman Jelena McWilliams. "And it gives banks a valuable tool to build deeper relationships with their customers."

The FDIC is an independent agency created by the U.S. Congress to maintain stability and public confidence in the nation's financial system by insuring deposits, examining and supervising financial institutions for safety and soundness and consumer protection, among others.

According to the FDIC, the new version replaced the previous 2010 version with several new features, including 14 modules that cover basic financial topics with graphics and exercises.

The new version also has more content on topics such as mobile banking, renting an apartment, and creative ways to save money, said the FDIC.

The 2018 version curriculum included instructor-led courses for adults available in nine languages, along with materials written in Braille and large print versions for visually impaired people.

The FDIC said that the new curriculum was available to download on its official website and free of charge.
