WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Department of State said Wednesday that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would meet with Mexican Foreign Secretary-Designate Marcelo Ebrard in Houston on Thursday.

The State Department did not provide the content of their meeting, but media speculated that the two would discuss the migrants marching toward the southern U.S. border.

Ebrard will become Mexico's top diplomat when President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador assumes office on Dec. 1.

Pompeo spoke by phone with incumbent Mexican Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray in October, discussing Mexico's efforts to address the migrant caravan.

U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen met on Wednesday with service members currently deployed in Texas to support the border mission, according to media reports.

"We are proud of you," Nielsen told service members during the visit.

U.S. President Donald Trump earlier described the caravan as an "invasion" and ordered the deployment of active-duty troops to the border to assist border security forces.
