JERUSALEM, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. special envoy on Iran, Brian Hook, on Thursday in Jerusalem to discuss moves against the Islamic republic.

They discussed "the special efforts being made against Iranian aggression," Israeli Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.

Netanyahu thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for reimposing the second batch of sanctions on Iran earlier the month.

"It's the most important thing that has been done against the most aggressive power in the region that has to be rolled back," Netanyahu said, hailing the U.S. sanctions as "a very important American step to establish peace in our region and peace in the world."

Hook said reimposing the sanctions is a way to toughen the U.S. moves against Iran.

"Now that we have reimposed our sanctions, we're in a position to really go after all of the revenue streams that Iran uses to fund Hamas and Hezbollah, its missile proliferation, all of the threats to peace and security that Iran presents," Hook said.

Hook commend Netanyahu, a long-time vocal opponent of the 2015 Iranian deal to curb Iran's nuclear program, as "a fantastic and committed partner" in the campaign against Iran.

The U.S. envoy is on a nine-day trip to Israel and the United Arab Emirates, which includes meetings with officials from the two countries to discuss cooperation on dealing with "Iranian threats."
