BAGHDAD, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi President Barham Salih will visit Iran on Saturday as part of a regional tour that would also include Saudi Arabia to boost ties with the two countries, said his office in a statement Friday.

The statement said that Salih "is scheduled to meet his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani and other Iranian top officials to discuss bilateral ties and cooperation, as well as the development in the region."

Salih will lead a delegation of ministers and advisors in his tour to the two countries, the statement said.

Salih's visits to Tehran and Riyadh are part of visits starting on Nov. 11 to Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, aimed at boosting Iraq's relations with the countries of the Middle East region.

The series of Salih's official regional visits are his first regional visits since he took office on Oct. 2, when the Iraqi parliament elected him as the president of Iraq.
