BUDAPEST, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport registered a record high air cargo volume in October this year, with the monthly volume exceeding 13,000 tons, the airport announced on Friday.

"Cargo traffic this October exceeded traffic in the same period last year by no less than 22.9 percent," the airport said in a statement. "In total, 13,313 tons of cargo was handled at Budapest Airport, and this has been the busiest month ever at Budapest Airport," the statement added.

According to the statement, the main reason behind the growth was "the outstanding performance of the Hungarian economy in the third quarter."

Hungary's third-quarter Gross Domestic Product rose 4.8 percent year on year, the Central Statistics Office said in a first reading of data here on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Hungarian sectors are distributing rapidly and smoothly "small but high-value" products in the world market.

"These include pharmaceutical products requiring special transportation as well as the consignments of the domestic electronics industry and suppliers of vehicle parts," says the statement.

Earlier this week, the Hungarian government announced that Hungary had become one of the world's top 20 exporters in terms of automotive and the pharmaceutical industries.
