PUL-E-ALAM, Afghanistan, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Two local officials including the acting district chief of Baraki Barak lost their lives in Afghanistan's eastern Logar province as their car ran over a mine planted by militants on Saturday, a police spokesman said Sunday.

"Ainudin, the acting district chief for Baraki Barak district and Aziz Rahman, the intelligence chief of the district, were on way to provincial capital Pul-e-Alam on Saturday afternoon when their vehicle ran over a mine planted by militants, leaving both the officials killed on the spot," police spokesman in the province Shah Poor Ahmadzai told Xinhua.

The official, however, blamed the enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban outfit for organizing the deadly roadside bombing.

Taliban militants who are active in parts of Logar province including the restive Baraki Barak district and are largely relying on roadside and suicide bombings, have yet to claim responsibility for targeting the two officials.
