GABORONE, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Botswana's private sector is being dovetailed into government's plans to diversify the country's exports.

Rosinah Bontsi, acting deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry on Tuesday said local entrepreneurs should collaborate with government.

Addressing Botswana Export Manufacturing Association general meeting, Bonsti said the working together is to ensure implementation of policies and strategy geared towards the promotion of the manufacturing sector.

"We fully recognize that our efforts will not bring the results without the private sector on board," said Bonsti.

Bonsti said Botswana wants to see growth and expansion of industries in the manufacturing sector to create diversity in products.

"We want investors to come to our country to engage in meaningful business and develop sustainable industries for the creation of employment and economic growth," said Bonsti.

According to Bonsti, Botswana has for a long time pursued economic diversification as an objective through successive National Development Plans (NDP) but only to realize limited gains despite sustained efforts.
