Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares closed higher Wednesday, with motorcycle, transport and medical equipment sectors leading the gains.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was up 0.21 percent to close at 2,651.51. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.37 percent higher at 7,908.47.

The combined turnover of stocks on the two bourses stood at 347.2 billion yuan (50 billion U.S. dollars), down from about 422 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Motorcycle, transport and medical equipment sectors were the strongest performers, with sub-indices rising 2.28 percent, 1.85 percent and 1.65 percent, respectively.

CRRC Corporation Limited, a leading supplier of rail transit equipment, rose 1.63 percent to 8.74 yuan per share.

Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the largest commercial bank in China, was up 0.19 percent. China Vanke, a major property developer, rose 1.48 percent.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, gained 0.57 percent to close at 1,363.03.
