JUBA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan's under-23 football team eliminated Uganda from the 2019 African Cup of Nations-Under 23 qualifiers, beating their southern neighbors by 2-0 in Juba Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Peter Michael Taku and Makueth Wol scored the goals for the Bright Starlets in each halves to overturn a 1-0 advantage the Uganda Kobs had over their South Sudanese counterparts six days ago.
South Sudan now progresses to the second round of the tournament to face Tunisia in a battle for a slot in the 2020 Japan Olympic Games.
It is the first time for South Sudan's junior side to make a step further in the AFCON-U23 after their seniors, the Bright Stars failed to qualify for next year's continental football showcase in Cameroon.
