ZAGREB, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- A van full of illegal migrants crashed Saturday morning near the city of Rijeka, Croatian police announced.

The police arrested a 25-year-old driver from Serbia and 13 migrants who were hidden in the van. There were no casualties and no one was seriously injured. However, the origin of the migrants is still unknown.

According to the police, a man who was driving a van with Austrian plate ignored their sign to stop, collided with a police car and crashed. The driver tried to run away when the police caught him.

Witnesses of the accident claim that migrants were trying to get to the Croatian-Slovenian border, Croatian daily Novi list reported.

The accident indicates that the migrant route through Croatia is still very active. In 2015 and 2016, millions of illegal migrants passed through the country on their way to the western and northern Europe. In the last few months, there were several similar accidents in Croatia.

In October, Croatian police found 113 illegal migrants hidden in a truck near Senj on the upper Adriatic coast. In August in the same Croatian county, police found 59 migrants hidden in a truck, while in June a van with 14 Afghan migrants crashed on the highway.

Thousands of migrants are currently stationed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, waiting to cross the border and enter Croatia.
