BEIRUT, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Belgian Parliament Speaker Siegfried Bracke said on Monday that his country will support Lebanon on international forums, Lebanon's Presidency website said.
"Belgium will become a member in the UN Security Council in January which will enable it to support Lebanon on international forums," said Bracke.
His remarks came during his meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace.
Aoun told Bracke that Lebanon's current priority is to secure a safe return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.
"We do not want to link the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland to a political solution in Syria," said Aoun.
The Lebanese president called upon the international organizations to support Syrian refugees upon their return home.
More than 1 million Syrian refugees are registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Lebanon, while the government estimates the true number of Syrians in the country at 1.5 million.
