Albania to chair OSCE in 2020

TIRANA, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Albania will manage the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Chairmanship in 2020, Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) reported on Wednesday.

According to ATA, the news was announced in Italy which is chairing OSCE in 2018.

The OSCE Presence in Albania in a statement expressed its congratulations for Albania.

"We congratulate Albania on the 2020 OSCE Chairmanship and look forward to an even closer co-operation with our host country as it prepares for its new role and the responsibilities that it entails within our security community," read the statement.

The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Tirana Luigi Soreca also welcomed the decision.

"The EU Embassy in Albania welcomes the decision to approve Albania's candidacy for the OSCE chairmanship. We look forward to giving our support to Albania for this important role," wrote Soreca in a statement.

With 57 participating states in North America, Europe and Asia, the OSCE is the world's largest regional security organization.
