SAO PAULO, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Fabio Carille has returned as coach of Corinthians, seven months after leaving the club to join Saudi Arabia's Al-Wehda.

The 45-year-old replaces Jair Ventura, who was sacked on Tuesday after a disappointing end to the Brazilian Serie A season.

"Fabio Carille has come back to Corinthians," the Sao Paulo club said in a statement. "He reached an agreement to return to the place where he began [his coaching career] and will be head coach in 2019."

The new deal expires in December 2020.

Carille guided Corinthians to the 2017 Brazilian Serie A title but departed in May after receiving a lucrative offer from Al-Wehda.

Corinthians said they agreed to honor the release clause in Carille's two-year deal, believed to be around 750,000 US dollars.

The seven-time Brazilian champions finished the 2018 Serie A season in 13th place, a year after winning the competition for the second time in three years.
