Brunei set medal record in 10th BIMPNT-EAGA Friendship Games

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- The 10th Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-Northern Territory East Asian Growth Area (BIMPNT-EAGA) Friendship Games concluded here on Sunday afternoon, with Sabah of Malaysia, Brunei's "A" team and the Northern Territory of Australia taking the top three places in the medal table.

Held from 7 to 9 December, the Games' eight events were aquatics, lawn bowls, karatedo, athletics, Malay martial arts, sepak takraw, taekwondo and Chinese martial arts. Hosts Brunei sent two teams and grabbed a total of 18 gold medals, 13 silver medals and 16 bronze medals, setting a tournament record.

With the theme of 'Friendship Through Sports', the Games aims to foster friendship among BIMPNT-EAGA states and athletes through solidarity, understanding and cooperation.

This was the 10th running of the biennial sporting event. The last Games were held in Indonesia in December 2016, while the next edition will be hosted by Midanao of the Philippines in 2020.
