JOHANNESBURG, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- South Africa's ruling party African National Congress (ANC) said on Tuesday that its spokesperson Pule Mabe took leave to clear sexual harassment allegations he faces.

Mabe is facing the internal party processes after his former personal assistance accused him of sexually harassing her. ANC released Mabe's letter in which he asked to be relieved of his duties for now until allegations against him are cleared.

"Today I wrote to the Secretary General of the ANC requesting that I be allowed to take leave until such time that the internal processes of attending to an internal grievance brought against me on serious allegations of, amongst other things, sexual harassment are completed," said Mabe.

He stated that he would like to take leave to allow internal processes of the party to continue without any interference.

Mabe is expected to appear before the ANC grievance panel on Wednesday to answer allegations of sexual harassment.
