SYDNEY, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- About half a ton of ice drugs hidden in car bonnets were seized and at least two people were arrested in a major drug bust in Australia's New South Wales state capital Sydney, police said on Friday.

Border authorities intercepted the crystalline methamphetamine drugs, also known as ice drugs, from the bonnets stored in port container crates late last month, according to a federal police statement.

Investigators identified nearly 5,000 packages within more than 70 car bonnets, with the drugs estimated at a street value of more than 367 million Australian dollars (265 million U.S. dollars), said the police.

Police subsequently arrested two men, aged 17 and 19, and the duo face maximum life imprisonment sentences for the drug charges against them.

"Whether it be in car bonnets, clothing, meat mincing machines or even highlighters - our officers have seen it all, and they have sophisticated technology at their disposal to identify these illicit substances no matter how criminals try to hide them," said border force regional commander Danielle Yannopoulos.
