BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Procuratorates have initiated public prosecutions against Ai Wenli, former vice chairman of the Hebei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Bai Xiangqun, former vice chairman of the government of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, for bribery, embezzlement and other violations, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) Friday.

Ai was charged with taking advantage of his positions to benefit others and illicitly accepting a huge amount of money and property.

The case was filed by the National Supervisory Commission for investigation before being transferred to the Municipal People's Procuratorate of Suzhou for review and prosecution, according to the SPP.

The Municipal People's Procuratorate of Dalian in northeast China's Liaoning Province has filed the case of Bai to the Intermediate People's Court of Dalian recently, the SPP said.

Bai allegedly took advantage of his positions to benefit others, asked for and accepted a huge amount of money and property, misappropriated public properties, illicitly obtained and divulged insider information and conducted insider trading.

After investigated by the National Supervisory Commission and the provincial public security department of Liaoning, the case was handed over to the Municipal People's Procuratorate of Dalian for review and prosecution, according to the SPP.

Prosecutors have informed the defendants of their rights, interrogated them and heard their lawyers' opinions, the SPP statement read.
