Canadian stock market hit two-year low Friday

TORONTO, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Canada's main stock market continued down Friday, hitting a two-year low as weakness in the tech and energy sectors weighed heavily on the market.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index fell 155.28 points, or 1.05 percent, to close the day at 14,595.07 points, the lowest closing price since November 2016.

The Canadian dollar fell 0.17 cents to 0.74.73 U.S. dollar. Shopify tumbled 12.7 percent to 187.71 Canadian dollars while BlackBerry fell 1.4 percent to 10.13 Canadian dollars.

Among the energy sector, Suncor lost 3.4 percent to 39.57 Canadian dollars while Canadian Natural Resources declined 3.2 percent to 34.18 Canadian dollars.

Alamos Gold fell 27 cents to 3.99 Canadian dollars while Kinross Gold lost four cents to 3.84 Canadian dollars.

Wheaton Precious Metals Corp soared 14.7 percent to 25.42 Canadian dollars.

The most actively traded companies are Nevsun Resources Ltd., Aurora Cannabis Inc. And Aphria Inc.

Nevsun Resources Ltd. fell six cents to 5.91 Canadian dollars on 18.3 million shares and Aurora Cannabis Inc. Rose 23 cents to 7.84 Canadian dollars on 15.5 million shares while Aphria Inc. jumped 43 cents to 7.47 Canadian dollars on 13.4 million shares.
