TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Turkey agreed on Thursday to step up their economic cooperation with the aim of reaching 30 billion U.S. dollars annually, Press TV reported.
The agreement was reached at the 5th Meeting of High Council for Iran-Turkey Strategic Cooperation in Ankara chaired by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Iran's trade with Turkey stood at 10.75 billion U.S. dollars in 2017, registering an increase of 11.24 percent compared with 2016.
Rouhani and Erdogan also voiced concerns over the re-imposition of sanctions by the United States against the Islamic republic, a move which could affect the entire region's economy.
Rouhani arrived in Ankara on Thursday for a two-day visit and talks with senior Turkish officials on bilateral economic relations as well as Syrian peace process that Iran and Turkey, along with Russia, have been brokering since January 2017.
