KIEV, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine on Friday received the first batch of multipurpose helicopters under a contract with France, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said.

Two choppers of Airbus H225 Super Puma were handed over to the Ukrainian National Guard and the State Service for Emergencies during a ceremony in Kiev, the ministry said in a statement.

Under the intergovernmental agreement signed in May, Ukraine will purchase 55 helicopters, totally worth about 628 million U.S. dollars, from France by the end of 2021.

The supplies will include 21 Airbus H225 Super Puma helicopters, ten H145 choppers and 24 helicopters of H125 type.

The choppers will be used in Ukraine's rescue and anti-terror operations, as well as in border security, traffic control and evacuation missions.
