BRASILIA, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's President-elect Jair Bolsonaro will be sworn in on Tuesday amid tight security, including more than 3,200 civilian and military security personnel, combat aircraft and surface-to-air missiles.

According to the capital Brasilia's secretary of public security, between 250,000 and 500,000 people are expected to arrive at the Esplanade of Ministers, where the inauguration ceremony will be held.

Police officers, firefighters, and army, navy and air force personnel will be deployed to the area. And for the first time at such an event, two laser guided surface-to-air missiles will be on hand to intercept any aircraft within seven kilometers that are considered a threat.

More than 20 air force planes will run reconnaissance flights over Brasilia, while a portable radar will be able to identify aircraft flying at low altitudes.

People will be able to access the esplanade on foot only via four access points

The afternoon ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. (1630 GMT) local time with Bolsonaro's arrival at the cathedral in Brasilia, accompanied by his wife Michelle, followed by the traditional parade to the National Congress.

Customarily, the first couple ride in an open-topped Rolls-Royce, but no decision has been made on that yet, with Bolsonaro perhaps opting to ride in an armored car.

The former military captain was stabbed while campaigning for the presidency by a man who turned out to have mental problems.

The so-called Dragons of Independence, as the presidential guard is called, will form part of the motorcade on motorcycles, police cars and on foot, setting out from the cathedral at 2:45 p.m. (1645 GMT) for a ceremony in the Chamber of Deputies at 3:00 p.m. (1700 GMT)

Around 4:00 p.m. (1800 GMT), Bolsonaro will depart for the presidential palace of Planalto, where he will review the troops and receive a 21-gun salute.

At Planalto, Bolsonaro is to receive the presidential sash from outgoing President Michel Temer, and appoint his 22-member cabinet.

Around 7:00 p.m. (2100 GMT), Bolsonaro is expected to arrive at the headquarters of the Foreign Affairs Ministry for a reception.
