LUSAKA, Jan.1 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Tuesday.

-- Authorities in western Zambia have confiscated 1,000 kilograms of fish from the time a ban on fishing was started on December 1, 2018.

Provincial Principal Fisheries Officer Gethings Chisule said three people have also been arrested for being in possession of fish and expressed concern that there was generally low compliance to the fishing ban among fishermen. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- All three border entries between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) that were temporarily closed following elections held on Sunday have been reopened and normal business has resumed.(Times of Zambia)

-- At least 20 inmates have escaped from a police detention cell in eastern Zambia's Mambwe district after breaking through a wooden air vent.

Provincial Police Commissioner Luckson Sakala said the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, adding that among those who escaped included 12 convicts while eight were suspects awaiting judgments. (The Mast) Enditem
