TEHRAN, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Iran will launch the third phase of the Persian Gulf Star Refinery in the coming days to make a "big leap" in gasoline production, Press TV reported on Tuesday.

Gasoline production capacity at the refinery in southern port city of Bandar Abbas will increase by 35 million liters per day by inaugurating the project, the report said.

"With the launch of the third phase of the Persian Gulf Star Refinery on Friday, the gasoline production capacity will reach 105 million liters a day," Deputy Petroleum Minister Alireza Sadeqabadi said.

This is a significant increase from October 2017 when Iran produced 63 million liters a day of gasoline, he said.

"We are currently preparing for a big leap in increasing gasoline production capacity," Sadeqabadi was quoted as saying.

According to data by the Iranian oil officials, gasoline consumption in Iran surpasses 80 million liters per day.
