KAMPALA, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Works have started on the removal of an Ethiopian Airlines plane that overshot the runway on Thursday at Uganda's Entebbe International Airport, delaying flights, authorities said.

A statement from Uganda's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said that efforts in consultations with Ethiopian Airlines have started to ensure that the aircraft is removed from the runway end so that normal flight operations can resume.

Vianney Luggya, CAA's spokesperson, told Xinhua earlier that Ethiopian Airlines Flight No. ET 338, a Boeing 737-800, overshot the runway on landing at 00:41 a.m. local time (2141 GMT) on Thursday. All the 139 passengers and crew onboard disembarked safely.

CAA said the incident affected all inbound international flights.
